Briscoes fined after customer trips over box

Briscoe Group has been fined $75,000 plus reparations after a customer tripped over a carton in the aisle of the Manukau Briscoes Homeware store in December last year. Briscoes was ordered to pay fines to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and $4000 in reparations to the customer, in addition to a $5000 contribution already paid. Liquor Stores fined $200k for ripping off workers

Two Auckland liquor stores and a dairy owned by businessman Ala'a Bader have been ordered to pay more than $200,000 in wage repayments and fines for breaching employment law. The Employment Relations Authority (ERA) has found that the companies that operate Civic Convenience, Symonds Liquor and Sky Liquor, underpaid some of their staff who were international students from India.
